Hi, I’m Michaela!
Movement has always been an important part of my life. From dance team and color guard to step aerobics, weightlifting, running, and yoga, I've always felt most like myself when I'm moving.
For as long as I can remember, I've recognized the positive impact movement has on my mental health. However, it wasn't until I began studying psychology, counseling, and yoga that I developed a deeper understanding of why movement can have such a powerful influence on our mental and emotional well-being.
Through my personal experiences and professional training, I've developed a greater appreciation for the connection between the mind and body. What began as a personal love for movement has grown into a passion for helping others explore how movement, mindfulness, and mental wellness can support one another.
More Than Movement
Through my personal experiences with movement and my yoga teacher training, I've come to appreciate yoga as much more than a physical practice.
Beyond building strength, flexibility, and mobility, yoga offers opportunities to cultivate self-awareness, manage stress, practice mindfulness, and develop a deeper connection with ourselves. By bringing intention to our movements and awareness to our breath, we can begin to recognize how our physical, mental, and emotional experiences influence one another.
I'm particularly interested in the ways our minds and bodies respond to stress. Our emotional experiences can manifest physically through muscle tension, changes in breathing patterns, and other bodily sensations. In the same way, intentional movement, breathwork, and mindfulness can help us respond to stress and support our overall well-being.
My goal is to encourage people to approach movement and mental wellness with curiosity rather than judgment, recognizing that there's no single way to care for ourselves. What we need can change from day to day, and learning to honor those needs is part of the practice.
A Little Background
I earned my Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Mercer University and my Master of Education in Counselor Education, with a concentration in Clinical Mental Health Counseling, from Georgia Southern University.
I'm a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), Registered Yoga Teacher (RYT-500), and Certified Mat Pilates Instructor.
My approach to mental health counseling is grounded in person-centered, strengths-based, and cognitive-behavioral therapies. I value creating a compassionate, collaborative environment where individuals feel supported in exploring their experiences, recognizing their strengths, and developing practical tools for navigating life's challenges.
As a movement educator, I teach vinyasa, gentle, restorative, and yin yoga, alongside Pilates and strength-based movement.
Across these disciplines, my goal is to encourage self-awareness, support overall well-being, and help others cultivate a deeper connection with themselves.
